This was an intriguing and challenging assignment: a case study for Intel explaining how Yahoo! Japan was able to successfully use Open vSwitch with DPDK to radically enhance L7 (application layer) performance in their network. It’s more technically detailed than the pieces I typically write and so it took a fair amount of research and extra care to make sure I accurately explained the concepts involved, but the process was enjoyable due to the great collaboration I had with my colleagues from Intel as well as the Yahoo! Japan engineers who agreed to be interviewed for the project.
